The Colour I Couldn't Name

By Mohana Biswas

I once had a glimpse
Of an unknown hue.
It came to me as a feeling;
That reminded me of you.

It was like the yellow sunlight,
Which in the months of spring
Kissed the blossoms bright;
But I still can't stop describing!

It was like the moonlit night
Making a crescent of smile:
That looked happy in my sight;
It's beams were just white.

It was like the empty black darkness;
That comforts my feelings inside.
Like the monsters of my loneliness:
Within this darkness who hide.

It was like the red hot summer;
When I keep coming back to life!
You came as a blessing my dear:
Just to make my days more bright.

It was like the blue ocean serene
Where tides wash away all the grief.
It was just the grasses soft and green:
The joy lasted for a time too brief.

It was like the soil, rich and brown,
Walking on which I did not forget
When the sun was going down,
It was like the orange sunset!

It felt like a windy field of violets,
Where it's fragrance danced in grace.
It was like those indigo garments;
Which feel like your lovely embrace.

I don't know what the colour meant;
I couldn't just assign to it a name.
I just understood the feelings I felt,
When I was just describing the frame!

I just know it gave me peace;
I know it was lovely,
It was not a bit disappointing;
Neither was it ugly!

I came to know you in the same way.
The same emotions you evoked in me!
The colour will someday fade away
Never again I will be able to see.

The colour brought me back to light;
It's description fits you the same!
You filled my nights with stars so bright:
So can I give it your name?
